My Dear Mrs. Blaine

Miss Addams begs me to thank you for the December [check] which you so kindly sent over yesterday in time to pull ↑us↓ through the year and let us close the Hull-House accounts for 1923 without a debt. This glorious state of affairs was due to a personal legacy which Miss Addams received and applied to our horrid hills for coal, but [page 2] she is tremendously relieved and most grateful to you for your generous [check].

We are so happy to hear that you are making a good recovery. Miss Addams sends affectionate greetings and her best wishes for the New Year with the hope of seeing you when you have both shaken off your bronchial maladies.

Very sincerely yours

Mary Rozet Smith
