Biographical Text

Richard Stanley Tuthill served as attorney general of Tennessee from 1867 to 1870. After Tuthill resigned as attorney general, he moved to Chicago and became the city attorney. After working in Chicago, Tuthill was appointed United States District Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois. in 1884. In 1887, Tuthill was appointed to the Illinois circuit bench.

Tuthill married twice. First to Jennie Smith, from 1868 until her death in 1872. He then married Hattie McKey in 1877. Tuthill had six children; one from his first marriage and five from his second marriage. Tuthill died in 1920.
