My dear Mrs. Dreier:

I thank you so much for your kind invitation for ↑to↓ a luncheon arranged for me by the Women's City Club of New York.

I speak for Mr. Ely Friday evening, March 28 in the Town Hall. He naturally prefers that that should be my "first appearance" in New York City and therefore the only possible date would be at luncheon Saturday, March 29. I can well understand that having but one date to select from it would ↑might↓ not easily be arranged. I am very sorry that I cannot stay longer in New York.

Thanking you very much for your cordial letter and with every possible appreciation of the courtesy offered me, I am

Faithfully yours,

Jane Addams [signed]
