TRANSLATION OF A LETTER FROM THE SOCIETY OF GERMAN DEEP-SEA FISHERIES IN GEESTEMÜNDE

↑Berlin 21st July 1919↓

During the war about 80 steam-trawlers belonging to private owners were lost in naval service while 70 trawlers were lost through mines. The number of fishing boats built by the navy on its own account which were lost are not known to us so we cannot give information upon that point. Since the armistice no more private fishing boats were lost in naval service because these were restored to their owners upon the outbreak of the Revolution.

Fishing could only be carried out to a very limited extent because of the shortage of coal. This is greatly to be regretted from the social economy point of view.
