My dear Miss Addams:--
A copy of the Examiner has just come into my hands, and on page four I find an affidavit by a member of the grand jury before whom Mayor Dunne took his case against The Tribune, in which he alleges that I stated that you were a freak and a monomaniac.
I trust that I hardly need say that the statement is an unqualifiedly false one, and inside of twenty four hours I think I will be able to submit to you statements from State's Attorney Healy, Assistant State Attorney Judge Going, and other members of the jury which will substantiate my word.
