JANE ADDAMS UNABLE TO COME TO THIS CITY TO DELIVER ADDRESS
It will be a great disappointment to a number of Akron people to learn that Jane Adams, Hull House, Chicago, cannot come to Akron this fall in the interest of the proposed plan of settlement work. Upon Miss Addams' first refusal a number of prominent charity workers about the city wrote letters urging her visit.
Probation Officer Huntoon received the following letter in answer to the invitation:
Baymeath, Bar Harbor, Maine.
Aug. 28, 1911.
My Dear Mr. Huntoon: I thank you very much for your cordial and urgent invitation to speak at Akron this winter, but I am sorry that I shall not be able to go to you. By the advice of my physician I am obliged to be somewhat careful and I have already taken a good many engagements to speak.
Regretting that I cannot be with you,

P. S. -- May I add how sincerely sorry I am and that I hope I may be able to come possibly in the spring if you will care to have me.

There is probably not a charity worker in the United States who has met with such success as has Jane Addams in her management of Hull house, and there is no doubt but that she could do much good in Akron. She has been asked to give Akron the earliest date possible in the spring.
