Dearest Lady

Would you consider becoming a member of the "American Commission on Ireland"? Of course the undertaking is full of pitfalls but I really believe that there is a chance for real usefulness. It stands now the original five & Raymond Robins and a Mr ↑Alec↓ Moore from [Pittsburgh] both Republicans, which ought to help.

It would be great if you would come on as the other woman member. Do talk to Mr Villard, or Owen Lovejoy, or Raymond Robins who is at the City Club of N.Y. just now. [page 2]

I know how you felt at first but I do think that the situation is changing somewhat and for the better so far as the Commission is concerned. If you can consider it, will you telegraph me and also to Mr Wm [Macdonald] at the Lafayette Hotel, Washington? I haven't made this letter very convincing but I hope with all my heart that you are coming on with us, and I am always devotedly yours
