Dear Madam!

May I, as a stranger, to direct a few words of sincere thanks to the dear madam.

Through Ms. Helene [Scheu-Riesz], I received a dollar parcel from your mission at the Women’s League and the joy of it was indescribable. Unfortunately, we live in a time when the possession of a abundant gift of food signifies the greatest joy. Now [page 2] we – five people – are relieved for a while of the tiresome worries about nourishment because of your noble kindness. Unfortunately, my humble words cannot express to you how deeply grateful I feel for the kindness and humanity from abroad. I was deeply touched not only by the great value of the gift, but also by the thoughtful assortment.

Please, dear Madam, on my behalf and on behalf of my relatives, accept [page 3] our warmest thanks.

We will be very economical with the good stuff and will always think of the kind donor.

I am now on vacation and have gone high up in the mountains where I am able to shout out any signs of life.
