Biographical Text

Pauline Goldmark graduated from Bryn Mawr and then studied for two years at Columbia. She worked for the New York State chapter of the National Consumers’ League from 1896 to 1909, working her way up from volunteer to assistant to the executive. She also served on the national board for forty years. Goldmark was also the associate director of the New York School of Philanthropy, served on the New York State Department of Labor’s Industrial Board, on the New York State Factory Investigating Commission, and as executive secretary of the United States Department of Labor’s Commission on Women in Industry. From 1918 to 1920, she managed the Women’s Service Section of the U.S. Railroad Administration, in 1919 she was a consultant to the American Telephone and Telegraph Company, and she was assistant director of research under Mary Van Kleek for the Russell Sage Foundation. Goldmark was responsible for many publications on working conditions for women.

Goldmark died in 1962.
