December 10th, 1918

My dear Mr. Aldis:

For several years you have kindly sent to Hull-House every December twenty-five dollars towards our general expense account. I am venturing to remind you of this in the hope that it may be convenient for you to send a like amount this year.

We have had unusual expenses due to the social and protective activities which Hull-House has developed in alleviation of war conditions. In addition to this our expenses have been very heavy because of the increased price of coal and other necessities.

I need not assure you that we should be most grateful if you felt that you could continue your subscription and that it would give us very great pleasure to have you come and visit the House at any time which is convenient for you. Our Christmas concert with its tableaux, given by the Hull-House Music School for twenty-five years and occurring this year on December twenty-second, is always an interesting occasion as are many other activities in the Holiday season.

Assuring you of our appreciation of your long generosity and in the hope that I am not presuming upon your courtesy, I am,

Faithfully yours,

Jane Addams [signed]
