Holderness N.H., September 4
Dear Miss Addams: -- I am so distressed over the Enclosed. I meant to talk with Mrs Karsten but my sister came back Suddenly from France and I was distracted that I left most things undone. I accept the Suggestion of Mrs Mead about Substituting milder terms for "demands", and I am always glad to put in Mrs. Post's commas and semi-colons.
I also feel very bad about being away when the People's Council [page 2] met. I read of it only after I had left. It would be very funny if it were not so tragically undemocratic. I shall be eager to see what [Crystal] Eastman and Roger Baldwin will do with the Experience will be something lasting.
I am here for three weeks -- but I could leave any moment.
I am so ashamed to be a runaway.
Always yours --
S. P. Breckinridge
