Description

The Servants of India was created in 1915 by Gopal Krishna Gokhale to promote the removal of British rule in India. They believed the best way to bolster the people of India was to strengthen its peoples through education of history, hygiene, culture, and patriotism. Members trained for five years and were required to accept small salaries for their contribution. The organization dwindled in size after the death of Gokhale in 1915, but still works for changes in social welfare from their headquarters in Pune.
