My dear Miss Addams: --
Unless the women of this Nation "get back" of the legislation pending in Congress, there will be hungry children all over this world. Doubtless you read in the morning papers of the shortage in the Wheat crop and I am told by Dean. Davenport of the Agricultural college of Illinois that the season is [terribly] backward all over the land and that practically nothing has been planted. The dean of that great institution is one of the [best] posted and sincere men in this country and he is trying to get a bill through that will bring speedy and permanent relief.
Kindly read the enclosed and if you agree with us advocate the passage of the Davenport bill or a bill based on the Davenport plan.
