Biographical Text

Jessie Bross Lloyd was the daughter of William Bross, the founder of The Chicago Tribune and the Daily Democratic Press. She was an independent woman who did not wish to live the average life of a housewife, and she and her husband worked together to entertain various social activists, from college presidents to union organizers, to Hull-House leaders.

Lloyd married Henry Demarest Lloyd in 1873. They had four children together: William, Henry, Demarest, and John. Lloyd died in 1904.
