THE WOMAN'S PEACE PARTY

My dear Miss Balch:
I am sending the enclosed letter from Dr. Jacobs which came the day before I reached home. It is too bad we did not have it at the meeting but I do not know that we could have done anything about it.
There must have been a good deal of feeling between her and the [Scandinavian] women. I can think of no other reason for such a reply. I am composing a reply which I hope will turn her wrath, but I am also counting on Mr. Battin's influence to make her see reason in the matter, although as he returns to England he may not see her for some weeks.
I think I won't send the letter at once to the rest of the five, because I think it would be better not to spread the news abroad that there has been a "row." It is so easy for the newspapers to take it up. Please don't show the letter to any one unless it is some one like Miss Wald who will certainly not talk, but do send me some suggestions in the matter.
