September 18, 1916.
Dear Miss Addams:
I have forwarded Professor Mead's manuscript and my note to him direct.
Mr. Warburg sends the enclosed, which counts him out of the possibilities in making good on Mr. Schiff's conditional offer.
Mr. Rosenwald already gives us $1000 as an annual contribution to our general fund. Do you think it would be "safe" to broach this special work to him?
I have been thinking of putting it before Mr. Cochran as the basis of his next year's gift, both with the idea of clinching Mr. Cochran's gift, ↑and↓ paving the way for Mr. Schiff's, now, when we must act promptly, -- counting on making good the loss to our general fund from other sources in the course of the year.
You spoke of coming down to Boston in early October, and getting a few people together to talk over a meeting of representatives of the oppressed peoples of Europe. Are you still planning this? By any chance do you come down to New York also, and if so, would it be too great a burden to ask you to attend a meeting of our board, which could be arranged to suit your convenience?
Sincerely,
