My dear Mr Ely:
I am the more ashamed of my delay because it has amounted to nothing and I am sending the manuscript at last in practically the same condition that it was a month ago. I have absolutely no time for writing this fall with the necessity for raising the large sum of money which the new buildings imply. You have been very patient about it and I hope the publisher won't take it out on the editor.
Miss Culver was much pleased with your letter and spoke of it with real gratitude. Thanking you for that as well as many other favors I am faithfully yours

↑P.S I hope very much that I may see the proofs before they are made up into pages.
