My dear Professor Hull:
I left Washington so hastily that I asked Miss DeGraff to reply to the query as to my being a Quaker. I am sure you have received a letter from her by this time. I wish with all my heart that I could say that I was, but fear that one Quaker grandmother is too slight a claim. The fact that I at one time "joined" an Evangelical church would be difficult to overcome.
I am much interested in your letter concerning the pamphlet on Preparedness, but am unable to find the pamphlet which I fear has miscarried. I should be grateful for another copy.
I have accepted the invitation to become a member of the Conference of Neutrals, initiated by the Ford party, and want very much to see you about it. I am such a believer in the "Counsel of Imperfection" that I am confident that something can be pulled off from this rather peculiar start.
Sincerely yours,
Jane Addams [signed]
